Make Any Room into a Fun Place to Hang Out

The summer months are a great chance to make some changes to your surroundings, since the kids will be in the house more. Small changes can make your living room more beautiful, or even your family room or basement. These changes will bring your family together and will give the kids a great place to visit with their friends. It may even inspire you to start a weekly game and dinner gathering with neighbors! Try these simple steps and transform your home from plain to amazing in no time!

Purge the Junk and Get Organized

Start your room makeover by banishing the rubbish. Get rid of everything that does not elong there. If you have a office area in the room, organize the filing area, desk drawers and book shelves and throw out anything that’s unnecessary. After doing that, create an organized filing system that will help keep everything in its own place from now on. For example, if you have photos that had been stored in a drawer, then you could buy a few photo boxes and divide them into spans of time, perhaps 5 years, so each box doesn’t get too stuffed. Another option is to digitize your photos that make more efficient use of physical space.

Use Multifunctional Furniture to Save Space

Find pieces of furniture that can convert into more than 1 piece. For example, a corner TV stand with storage in the bottom area can put your CDs and DVDs out of view. Alternately, you can also buy a coffee table that opens up, such as a rectangular box shape, where games and books can be stored. Another option for coffee tables is the kind that lifts up and can be converted into a dining table for eating. This eliminates the need for a both a storage chest and a dining table.

Make the Room Multi-Functional

If you wish to use the room for multiple purposes, such as a movie room and dining room in one, consider segregating portions of the room for each function to give yourself as much space as possible. One idea is to hide each space with a thick hanging tapestry and a hanging rod so that the area can be covered when you’re not using it. Pick a fabric that is more neutral to avoid attracting attention to the separation. A tapestry hanging that is easy on the eyes with threaded designs looks very nice and adds to any room. Find high-end curtain rods to add a delicate and high-class touch to your new room!

Make Your Room Whimsical and Fun

Find oddly humorous or original items that add to the overall theme of your room. You might look for a novelty desk lamp to go with whatever theme you’ve decided for the room. For example, a 50’s diner theme would go well with some neon signs and a diner-style. In addition, a good hockey game table can provide many hours of play time for indoor family fun. Choose an all-in-one game table that has the types of games your family likes to play; many different options are available from air hockey to table tennis. With some imagination, you can transform your basement, TV room, or living room into an entertainment area that provides you with fun and quality time together!
