Now and again I sit back and wonder how good I actually am when playing in free online poker tournaments.

I mean, I think I’m pretty good, I know all the rules inside out, have loads of hands under my belt and so on but the fact is that the only way to truly find out is to play and watch many different people on different sites and in live games.

Playing with friends and family is fun but your skill level will stay the same because you will know how they play their cards in a short period of time and you might now learn anything.

You just might think everyone in the whole world play that way and you’ll lose in poker tournaments around the world when you play with the pros at real casinos.

Fact is that it’s going to cost you some money to learn how to play poker because it’s not the same as watching on television than in real life at a poker table. You might lose a lot until you really know how to play your cards right.

Reading the rule book and tips on how to play poker won’t get you anywhere until the cards are in your hands and only you can tell yourself to fold, call or all-in.

My advice would be to try out as many poker websites and bricks and mortar casinos that you can find. Try out the tables on offer and see how well you do.

Never go in bit at first, start of playing small amounts so you don’t lose to much in one go. It is likely that you are going to get some bad beats, but stick with it and don’t lose your concentration, you will win further down the line.

Bear in mind that when you are playing in a live casino rather than with friends or family, the game play will be very different. There is little conversation in a casino game and it is all taken much more seriously than having fun with people you know.

At casinos people there are out to get all your money no matter how they get it. So you should watch a few minutes but you sit down at a casino table. Once you get a good feel of the game and you feel your skill level is better, then move to a higher limit table.

Do this over and over again and poker will make you a lot of money. All you need is to make some time to play at different places and don’t play at the same place. Before spending loads of your own money, try playing free online poker tournaments to get a feel of the game.
